"The bosom" is my statement on the subject of the tabooed female corporeality within an aesthetically neutral visual language.

Initially, my idea was to embody in a physical object the idea of the "bosom" as a creative principle, the essence of femininity. In the center of the composition is a luminous circle, a symbol of life, harmony, completeness. The base of the composition is a textured abstract painting. Convex palpable strokes of white, pink and beige are soft, bodacious, enveloping, while their direction is energetic, unruly... Blah, blah, blah.

Shyness and fear aside, it becomes obvious that I made a luminous vagina. And I was able to admit it to myself with a slight traitorous chuckle. Treacherous about myself.

Embarrassment, shame, disgust, sinfulness - those ideas about the female body and female sexuality that are encoded in our culture. You have to build a relationship with your own body, to be aware of it, in order to overcome the inherent dislike of it.

In our society, a woman's body not in the role of a sexualized object is considered not just obscene, but illegal. We are talking not only about the criminal case against Yulia Tsvetkova, but also about the persecution of girls who publish their photos against administrative or religious buildings. They don't do anything indecent in the photos, they don't express any political ideas. Their bodies alone are enough to defile and offend.

A realistic depiction of female genitalia, publishing this image, much less exhibiting it in an institution can lead to real legal repercussions. It's hard to imagine a modern-day equivalent of Gustave Courbet's "The Origin of the World" without being chopped up by a Cossack sword back at the vernissage.

So I go into the field of pictorial metaphors.

As it turns out, the painting is quite photogenic: the glowing circle becomes the nimbus of the person in the photo. My avatar on social media has for a long time been a self-portrait on the background of a luminous vagina. In this way I want to present the tabooed symbol of female corporeality in the public sphere as something sacred and sacralizing.
